Quite a big post today to try and make up for the lack of posts this past week or so. I've had my head buried in archive boxes of old photographs from the magazine I work for as we prepare for our 25th anniversary issue. Showing on Halloween night on the BBC and starring two of my favourite people, the League of Gentlemen's Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton. There are too few Halloween Specials around! Also on TV at the moment, on BBC4 is A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss (another member of TLoG) -a brilliant and informative watch.

Three absolute musts for my Halloween playlist...

Kate Bush - Get Out Of My House

The one Kate Bush song I could never listen to in entirity as a child because it scared me. I think it's the combination of the deamonic belches of Kate Bush possessed by a donkey with the gut wrenching screams of "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE"... and the sly, devilish man whispering that he'll turn into the wind and get in no matter how much she shuts him out. Brrr, it makes me shudder just thinking of it. Hear it here.

Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead

A dark, brooding, gothic lament to the actor who lived and died as Dracular (literally, he was buried in his Dracular costume) by Bauhaus. Wait out the long intro to hear the haunting vocals. Hear it here.

The Cure - Lullaby

Oh Robert Smith, how perfect you are.... and how perfect the video for Lullaby is. It suits the song beautifully and is my all time favourite music video:

MAC Collection: Venomous Vilians

Time for another MAC collection and collaboration, this time with Disney. In stores around Halloween time in the UK (and right now in the US I believe), the Venomous Vilians collection celebrates some of the most notorious and iconic baddies from Disney films. Vilians who now can boast their own make up range include Sleeping Beauty's arch nemisis Maleficent, the stylin' Evil Queen from Snow White, Cruella De Vil and the most recent vilian, Dr Facilier (some dude from The Princess and the Frog).

Now, whilst all these are fabulous vilians (I can't comment on Dr Facilier as I haven't seen the film yet), my first hope when I heard of the collection was that there would be an Ursula range! For some reason she is my favourite Disney vilian and although she's not such a looker as, say, the Evil Queen, the scene where she pops open a little fish thing and uses it as a lipstick always bounces round my head whenever I apply a femme fatal shade of red. MAC, you missed a trick!

(I mean, come on - look at her bitchin' 80s make up!)

Anyway, I look forward to the collection hitting the shops and will be sure to pop by a MAC store for a peek at the products and their ~wicked~ packaging.

PS. Kudos to MAC for embracing Halloween! So few UK companies bother...

Halloween Week: It's just a jump to the left...

And so our Halloween week draws to a close... (I said that in my best Vincent Price voice). I did prepare a big post about halloween costumes but the internet ate it! How feindish!

I hope you all have wonderful Halloweens, whatever you're doing. It's not very big in the UK, but for my part I'll be going to see the Rocky Horror Show dressed as a female/rockabilly version of Meatloaf's character. Can't wait! I may post some images of my costume and make up next week :)
