Shoegazer Haul

Here is a roundup of some of the lovely things I’ve come into the possession of recently – whether through receiving them as presents or treating myself to them . . .
Antique wooden peg doll (late 1800s/early 1900s?):
As I have mentioned here before, I have been on the lookout for an antique, wooden peg doll since I was a little girl and used to love watching a little cartoon called Pinny’s House which told the story of a little peg doll that came to life and had adventures. Having had no luck whatsoever finding a peg doll in the many antique shops I visit, I decided to turn to eBay and my luck was in. I won an auction for not one but TWO antique peg dolls, one of which I kept and one my mum now owns as she had been looking for one too. Naturally, my doll is called Pinny :)
Goat figure:
In October 2010 my brother and his partner moved to Hong Kong following my brother’s promotion at work, so for Christmas I was treated to some unusual little finds they had come across in a shop they said would be right up my street. Firstly, this little goat is a very good representation of a real goat (but hopefully not made of real goat fur?? THE HORROR!) and my brother said he couldn't resist getting it for as goats were my favourite animal when we were little.

Green Chalcedony Ring:
LOVE! I got this faceted Green Chalcedony ring as a Christmas present and have rarely taken it off since! The aqua tone of the green is beautiful and the unpolished silver setting gives it an edge.
Jointed wooden bear:

This jointed wooden bear (which reminds me slightly of the Black Forest bears) sits quite happily wherever I chose to place him and is a lovely addition to my collection of homeware and ornaments. He was another gift from Hong Kong.

Antique typewriter (1920s?)
I got this amazing piece of vintage writing machinery for my 25th birthday back in September 2010 as a present from my parents. I love it, but it is incredibly heavy! I can't wait to find the perfect place for it when I get my own place :)

Hope you enjoyed that round-up :) x

Shoegazer finds: Tuesday Treats!

Some little finds to brighten a dull and rainy Tuesday... firstly some second-glance jewellery from Locher's. I'm calling it "second-glace" jewellery because when you first see it, it looks quite cutesy and sweet... but just take a closer look....
Next up, you know I'm a sucker for foxes... this simple card if from Lisa Jones.
Talking of foxes, have a look at this little plush fox from Astulabee available from ReformSchool (which, by the way, is a really nicely designed website!)
If you love the fox plush, check out this grizzly bear plush again from Astulabee at ReformSchool:
Lastly, bringing it back to jewellery... this rope and cube necklace comes from the UK-based Vamoose on Etsy and is perfect for those who appreciate simple jewellery. Visit Kathryn's beautiful and inspiring Blog / Website for more gorgeous and unusual jewellery.
That's all for now :)

Shoegazer home: Prints

As I'm sure I have mentioned, I am hoping to move out with my boyfriend sometime soon and am currently in the process of collecting nice things for our first home together. An on going project has been collecting art prints and postcards to get framed and hang in a cluster. So far I have prints by Fifi Lapin, Little Doodles, Apak Studios, The Claudettes and Belle and Boo, as well as some vintage prints and book plates I have picked up on my travels. My most recently purcharse comes from the hand of Julia Pott (whose work can currently be seen on E4's Skins adverts). I couldn't resist these two bear-based prints. The first one is entitled.... "This is my boyfriend" (perfect title for it!) and the second is "Hello I love you."

Oh My Cavelier

Sometimes you find a style that instantly strikes a chord with you. Well, Oh My Cavelier did just that when I came across it on Etsy. The artist behind Oh My Cavelier is Julianna Swaney who lives and works in Portland, Oregon. Julianna lists victorian dresses, furry animals and beehives amongst her favourite things and often brings these elements into her art.
The foxes, bears, bees and wolves are quite simply perfect! I love their limbs - I know that sounds odd - but what I mean is I love the way Julianna represents a fox/wolf/bear leg as it might actually look - rather than in the childish way they are so often depicted.
My absolute favourite image is of a suspicious looking bear cluthing a beehive (first image below). These images look like they've jumped right from the pages of the sort of children's book you cherish in your memory as you grow up. I'm so excited to have purchased a couple of items from the Etsy shop - a bee brooch and a little rabbit card that will most probably end up framed and hung with my other arty buys.
