Shoegazer Visits: Lewes

This weekend I headed to Lewes for a good old rummage in the many lovely antique shops the little town boasts. As I've blogged about in the past, the shops are jam packed full of unusual antiques, vintage items and trinkets. I'll follow this post up with a haul post of some of the bits I bought, but for now here are some snaps I took as I was going round...

Shoegazer Haul: antique & flea market finds

As promised, here is a post of some of the items I picked up last Saturday in Lewes. I want to have shelf or two to display iconic British items, so I was glad to find a couple of new bits to add to that collection. Elsewhere, I found a really lovely china tea set and a vintage Liberty print scarf!
Above: Swallow tea set. £6.
Above: Queen Elizabeth II coronation dish from 1953 - £2.50
"Long Live The Queen" coronation pencils - £2 each
(other items pictured are from previous hauls)
Above: Enormous Liberty scarf - £5! Bargain!

Shoegazer Visits: Lewes

Last Saturday morning I popped to the Old Curiosity Shops of Lewes and as ever, found some amazing, intriguing, weird and wonderful things in the higgledy-piggledy hideaways. Excuse the poor quality of these images, I was snapping away on my iPhone so as not to annoy everyone with a flash.
Above: The attic of the flea market. Strange mannequin heads... bunting... fairy lights... what's not to love?

Above: Birdseye views of the antique shop situated in an old church.
Above: The poor things were draped over the biggest bird cage I've seen.
Above: Vintage Snow White silk (£90 for a metre!)
Above: Perm wig, garish jumper, floppy yellow gloves - I don't know who dressed this mannequin... but they toatlly deserve a job as a stylist, riiight?
Above: Vintage clothes, bags and ... lamps.
Above: One seller clearly loved the Bauhaus movement.
Above: The face of a massive, beautiful old grandfather clock.
Above: A dresser full of china.
Above: Beautifully embellished, hand stitched oriental fabric.
Above: I had to take this photo on the move as the bear is in a private office... but isn't he jaunty?! I like to pretend he owns the flea market and bumbles round at night and who knows, maybe even dances with the taxidermy bore? I hope so anyway.

Coming next is a haul post showing some of the bits I bought :)

Haul: Lewes

Lewes antique and flea market haul...
plus some bits from a really nice gift shop we found:
Above: Anyone who knows me will know I can never resist a flamingo! I found this little guy in Lewes' amazing flea market.
Above: This ususual Raccoon ornament originates from Russia. I saw it... picked it up and looked at it.... went off and continued shopping then just had to go back and get it! I guess £10 wasn't too bad for something to add to my collection of unusual ornaments!
Above: This purse was from a shop and tearoom called Wickle - if you are ever in Lewes make sure you go there! They had so much nice stuff! £12.50
Above: Also from Wickle, this phone/bag charm features a bird, a bow, a silver postcard and a charm with a paper plane on it. Lovely. £4.00
Above: These silver arm charms are Spanish Minagro charms. The word Minagro means "miracle" in Spanish and some believe Minagro Charms have spiritual or magical powers.
Above: This was such a good idea - vintage playing cards mounted with nice photo corners and turned into greetings cards. I couldn't find the right initial for my name, so I got my boyfriend's. I'll definately be keeping an eye out for packs of vintage games cards now I think! From Wickle. £4.00
Above: Vintage book - Birds of the British Countryside. From Lewes' flea market. £3.00. I plan to turn this into a journal or something. All the illustrations will be perfect!
